"...To keep your balance you must keep moving" - Albert Einstein
Movement is what keeps life interesting. If one were to stay stationary then every day will be like the last, all blending together into easily forgettable days, months, years, an entire lifetime.
Jess, Rosie, and myself have had a lot of movement so far in 2022, certainly too much to be sustainable. Since March 7th after returning from a lovely and relaxing family trip to Hawaii, life has been hectic. We had just decided to start looking for a new house, put in an offer, got accepted, I went to Denmark for a work trip, closed on the house the day after I returned, moved to our new house in Lyons, remodeled and updated our Niwot house, quick weekend trip to Austin for a wedding, put our house on the market, and now currently under contract. Uffda.
And all of that was on top of the original and also hectic plan of me leaving my family and home for a 2 1/2 month grand once-in-a-lifetime adventure. My Dad and I will be cycling across the country! Needless to say, I (and my Dad who has helped out immensely during our hectic months) have not ridden my bike very much prior to this journey.
This crazy idea is originally Roger's. We had always enjoyed biking together through my childhood and young adult life. A few years ago when he was planning out his retirement, I asked what was on his bucket list. He only mentioned to me at that time, it was to bike across the country. Well wouldn't it be great if I could somehow get the logistics of life in order to join him! At the time I figured it simply wouldn't be possible to join. Then a year ago, we got to talking a bit more serious about the idea. I pitched it Jessica and also linked it to a midlife crisis and she was fully supportive of the idea. Then I pitched the idea to my work and my boss was also very supportive to help figure out a solution. Then Roger and I began discussing the details of the trip. My Mom was also involved in the planning as she will be following along in an RV for a portion of the trip. We will be biking the original TransAm route from Virginia to Oregon with a nice halftime stop in Colorado. Fast forward to now, I am on a plane to Virginia to meet my Mom and Dad to start riding tomorrow. Arriving at midnight tonight, taking an Uber to an empty Cracker Barrel parking lot, in hopes of finding the RV!
To my lovely wife and daughter... Thank you for your continued support of this adventure through all of life's movements! I love you and will miss you both dearly but we will see each other again in about 2,000 miles!
